- Deserts are among the most extreme environments on Earth.
- Temperatures can rise above 50 degrees during the day.
- Yet a surprising number of animals have adapted to survive there.
- Many desert animals avoid the heat by staying underground during the day.
- They only come out at night, when it's much cooler.
- The camel can go for several weeks without drinking water.
- Some small rodents get all the water they need from their food.
- Large ears help animals such as the desert fox to lose heat.
- Climate change may make these environments even harder to survive in.
