Full transcript (contains answers)
- Today we'll be discussing one of the most intelligent animals in the ocean.
- The octopus has around 500 million nerve cells.
- Surprisingly, most of these are found in its arms rather than its brain.
- This means each arm can act partly on its own.
- In experiments, octopuses have learned to open jars to reach food.
- Some have even been seen escaping from their tanks at night.
- Octopuses can also change the colour of their skin in less than a second.
- They use this ability both to hide and to communicate.
- Despite their intelligence, most octopuses live for only 1 or 2 years.
